With the lack of lefties in the Nats' bullpen after Eischen's injury and Horgan's demotion, an interesting nugget from Jayson Stark caught my attention:
"Phillies GM Ed Wade told the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jim Salisbury last week not to read anything into the fact that the Phillies haven't talked about an extension for [Billy] Wagner, who can be a free agent after this season. But one friend of Wagner says it's unlikely he'll be back in Philadelphia unless the Phillies win. Wagner's first two choices, the friend says, are the Nationals and Braves, because of their closeness to his home in Virginia."
Completely irrelevant for now, since we have a closer, we have no owner to spend money and Wagner's not a free agent yet. But interesting to think about.

Interesting idea. But, the guy's older, and he's had a few too many arm problems. I'd be scared at the price he'll probably command.
It's a fun thought. Long way off though. And probably not gonna happen, true.
I remember the NoVa types using this as an argument in favor of Loudoun. Seriously.
the Billy Wagner argument?
Weird
Yep. The message board had some pretty ugly/stupid moments back then.
Wagner's interesting, and that strikeout would need to dip tremendously or he would need to channel Mark Davis in order to lose it over a three-year contract (not that he'd necessarily settle for one).
But am I an idiot in asking why exactly "closer" is such a pressing need? (Other than the trickle-down effect of making Cordero the set-up guy; of course, he's going to be looking to make closer money after next season, too.)
